You have questions. You want to know your next step. To see which way to go.
Look for Answers
Do you think someone else knows more about you than you do? Where do you look for answers to the things that matter to you?
We are not taught to look inside ourselves for guidance in our life.
Nobody ever taught me the value of my inner voice, that it was worthy of my attention. I tuned out my inner experiences. I discounted them.
Our schools teach us to observe and interact with the outer environment. That’s the way we are taught to learn. We value assessment and judgment. Reflection and time for quiet are rarely celebrated.
It is not that the outer world is unimportant and that critical thinking should not be developed. Rather it is that the inner world is an untapped resource for so many of us. The inner world is vast. It has an expanse that we may not realize.
How could we make choices and move forward in harmony with our own personal source of direction?
More importantly, what could we be teaching our children?
Your Inner Voice
Imagine if you gave a similar amount of focus to discovering your inner environment, as you do with your outer world?
Does this hold any value for you? Consider where the answers to your deepest questions are to be found. Truly, they are inside. Nobody else holds our answers.
And remember: You are your children’s role models. They will learn from how you attend to your inner self.
Begin now to listen to your inner voice. It may not be easy because there is so much outer noise.
The inner voice is quiet. Be patient. You have to give it time and attention. That’s the first step: to give your inner self the value and acknowledgement it deserves by the gift of your focus.
There is so much to discover!
“He is short-sighted who looks only on the path he treads and the wall on which he leans.”
– Kahlil Gibran
Take a breath. Release it. Take another. Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.
You may want to share something from this process. Sharing anchors insights in your body. It leads you to deeper insight. It stimulates action. Feel free to share whatever moves you.
