I wonder if you have an inner ranking system, assigning more or less value to certain of your qualities and actions. You base this ranking on your expectations and belief systems.
Do you measure up? Do you sell yourself short? If you decide that you “measure up,” are you able to relax into being yourself, or do you continue to self-assess?
Here’s the problem with this. If you live with an internal set of balancing scales, you are constantly judging every exchange. This happens in both directions, in the way that you look at yourself and how you perceive those around you.
There is treasure in the diversity of gifts that others offer. Are you available to receive it?
Step back from the scales
What would happen if you stilled the scales? Could you embrace your intrinsic value that is present simply because you are alive? Could you recognize what you offer to others, even if it is different from what they provide?
Now turn that around. See if you value what someone offers to you when it is unlike what you have given to them.
Consider the elegantly simple exchange that takes place in the process of breathing. Pause for a moment right now and consciously take a breath. Take another one. How does your body feel as you begin to consciously breathe? Do you notice that there is an exchange happening? There is a chemical and energetic interaction taking place in both your internal and your external environment. With every breath you are adding something to what already exists.
The intelligence of the breath
There is intelligence in the breath. It knows exactly what it needs to do without any deliberate direction from you. With each breath new energetic information is delivered to your cells.
When you bring consciousness to this process you can begin to decode this new information. It becomes the vehicle that connects you with the awareness of the next step of your journey.
There is always something new to discover, to give and to receive. Every moment is different. Each one is fresh. What if this was your everyday experience? What if this was the foundation for your life?
Devote some dedicated time of concentration/meditation. It doesn’t need to be hours of quiet, perhaps only 15 minutes. Then allow the question to simmer within you. Let responses bubble up into your awareness. Notice new ways of thinking, of images or ideas that arise spontaneously. Pay attention to your dreams. Let it happen. Be aware. See where it leads you next. Let yourself savor this process of receiving from yourself. Don’t judge whatever comes up, just receive it. Make notes.
You may want to share something from this process. Sharing is an important way to anchor an insight in your body. It leads you to deeper insight. It stimulates action.
